Water management strategies

At Waldeck we recognise that water is a precious commodity and as we face more and more challenges from climatic changes it is important to design sustainable solutions within urban developments.  This requires a clear water management strategy to address problems including rainwater run-off from roofs, highways and paved areas. Severe storms and increased urbanisation have created a rise in flows, meaning sewers have less capacity to cope, which can result in flooding and cause considerable stress.

Waldeck provides both flood risk assessments and sustainable urban drainage solutions either separately or as a package. They are particularly useful at the early feasibility stage, the planning phase and as part of Code for Sustainable Homes applications. We offer:

  • flood risk analysis for projects built within flood risk areas highlighting risks to the design team, contractors, clients and end-users
  • advice on alternative foundation and drainage options
  • documents that satisfy local planning authorities’ conditions in respect of mitigating flood risk compliant with PPS25 and the BRE for compliance with the Sur 1 requirements of the Code for Sustainable Homes
  • research by our R&D team, which constantly explores other modern methods of construction for flood resilience/control and sustainable infiltration systems
  • a review of your existing hydrological and hydrogeological situation together with an environmental impact assessment which can ensure optimum design achieving green field run-off flows and the re-charging of ground water while enhancing the environmental aspect
  • interpretation and assessment of Environment Agency / Drainage Board flood information; 3D ground and hydraulic modelling to see the effects of river embankment / watercourse breach and assessment of the overland flood flow depth and velocities
  • expert help for projects of all sizes, from small private domestic properties to major housing developments

We offer the following with a high level of expertise:

  • Civil engineering
  • Soft and hard Sustainable Urban Drainage Design (SUDs)
  • Pre-acquisition flood risk analysis
  • Outline and full planning Flood Risk Assessments (FRA) and PPS25 Flood reports
  • Code for Sustainable Homes Assessment, Sur 1 reports SUR1 reports (without and Flood Risk Assessment)
