Setting the standard for best practice in sustainable design, BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method) is the most widely used assessment of the environmental impact of new and existing buildings and DREAM for defence assessments . It covers energy, materials and water conservation as well as addressing issues like transport and ecology of the site and even the wellbeing of the people using the building.
We understand the importance of improved working and living environments and corporate responsibility for organisations to reach environmental objectives while also aiming to reduce running costs.
Waldeck has several trained assessors currently working on BREEAM and DREAM projects involved in design and assessment as well as in an advisory capacity from inception through to commissioning and management.
Our expertise means we can provide innovative solutions on how to minimise environmental impact and how to obtain the best possible BREEAM /DREAM rating. This can have a positive influence on the design, construction and management of buildings.
We understand the significance of the European Union’s Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, one of the main drivers in changing the UK regulations, produced as a response to fears over climate change as well as other significant factors for tackling the energy efficiency in buildings.
Addressing energy use and emissions in building has the potential to make a substantial difference to overall energy emissions in Europe owing to the long service life of a building which can therefore result in a long-term benefit for reducing emissions.
The objective of the directive is to ‘promote the improvement of the energy performance of buildings’ and outlines the major areas which will be affected.
The UK has adopted the SAP methodology for dwellings and SBEM for non-dwellings and with measurement methods in place it is possible to set minimum performance standards differentiating between building types and also between new and existing buildings.
New regulations will insist that an Energy Performance Certificate is made available to owner/buyer or tenant when buildings are constructed, sold or rented out and that this will include reference values such as legal standards and benchmarks in order for consumers to assess the energy performance of the building. This certificate will also have recommendations for cost-effective improvements to the energy performance.
Waldeck employs accredited / qualified assessors that can provide:
- SAP calculations
- SBEM calculations
- Energy Performance Certificate and recommendations
