of the Year 2011

St. Ives Press, Peterborough

Posted on June 6th, 2011 by admin

St. Ives Press provide printing facilities for a number of major publications in the UK including Vogue and Marie Clare. As a part of their improvements to their Peterborough facility they have invested in a new £6m press machine to replace existing outdated plant. Waldeck were employed in conjunction with Lindum Sturgeon to design and build a new press base and roof raising works to accommodate the new 50m long by 8m wide 200-tonne press machine.

To minimise the effect on adjacent live presses and to investigate the possibility of re-using the existing press base Waldeck commissioned geotechnical investigation to establish an accurate picture of the existing concrete base and the founding strata. Using this information Waldeck carried out a detailed investigation of the anticipated settlement due to the new loads. It was concluded that the predicted settlement was within the acceptable criteria, so Waldeck was able to confidently assure St. Ives Press that the existing base could be re-used to support the new press machine, providing a significant cost saving.
